I've wanted to chalk my hair for some time now. It started when I saw this post by The Beauty Department blog. I was afraid to give it a shot, because my hair is light. I read up about it and realized that it's far from permanent. In fact, since I opted out of using water it faded away by days end.
The most confusing part of chalking my hair was the deception of the term "chalking your hair" ha-ha. I literally went to the craft store looking for side walk chalk. Luckily, I read up on it some more and realized people are using soft chalk pastels like these. Not to be confused with oil pastels.
The steps are pretty simple. Start by twisting a lock of hair. If you have light blonde tips skip straight to chalking. For hair medium blonde or darker spray a little water onto the twisted lock. Then rub the chalk against the hair. Brush out the excess chalk and seal it with a curling or hot iron. Clip your chalked piece back and repeat the process (spray water) chalk, brush, curl or iron. I found that purple, teal and pink go together nicely. I alternated between colors for a universal look. I ended the day with a good hair wash and deep conditioning treatment using Moroccan Oil.
Any fun hair coloring tricks? I'd love to hear them. Xo Inna.
